The Miss Universe pageant has landed in Thailand once again after 13 years. Amidst the excitement for the world’s top beauties who have arrived in the city, there’s one, or actually a few things, to look forward to. Thailand’s beloved royal HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana has also embraced her new role for the universe’s biggest beauty contest as designer for swimsuits and two custom Thai silk dresses: one for Miss Universe Thailand 2018 Sopida Kanchanarin and another for Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters to be worn during the special Thai Night gala dinner.
The Sirivannavari brand is in charge of boosting the confidence of all beauty queens with the design of swimsuits. HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana has created a collection of colourful bathing suits under the concept “Across the Universe.” All the beautiful colours of the world: red, green, blue, orange and yellow, come together in a series of one pieces or bikinis to represent the idea of a world united in harmony, where all is fair and equal.

Another highlight event for this MU contest is a special Thai Night gala dinner where all the beautiful ladies from 95 nations will appear in a Thai silk dress designed by Thailand’s most celebrated fashion designers from many generations. For this special night, Miss Universe Thailand 2018 Sopida Kanchanarin is wearing a design by HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana. The elegant silhouette takes after the gowns from Sirivannavari Couture Collection inspired by the wardrobe of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Combining mudmee and praewa silk, the dress incorporates couture technique that requires skilled craftsmanship and meticulous handiwork.
Princess Sirivannavari’s ingenuity lies in her ability to craft an elegant and modern dress from Thailand’s two most celebrated weaves while ensuring the fabrics’s unique character shines through her design. Another key detail of the dress is the peacock image — a symbol with double meaning as it represents both the Sirivannavari brand the long-cherished royal guarantee of Thai silk bestowed by HM Queen Sirikit.

South African Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters is another beauty queen who will appear in a royally designed gown. This unique number comes in the form of a strapless 2-piece dress, and is inspired by HM Queen Sirikit’s wardrobe. Using solid Thai silk and praewa silk, the royal designer uses moulage technique to create natural flow of the dress, while the skirt part is cut in the style of a Grecian dress to make this 2-piece more modern while showcasing the unique beauty of the fabric.
