Amethyst and Cherry Blossoms at The Okura Prestige Bangkok

The five-star hotel’s spa is blooming with unique treatments and seasonal therapies

If you’re looking for some serious down time, a visit to The Okura Prestige’s luxurious spa might just do the trick. There you’ll receive five-star treatment and a complete departure from the pollution and noise pollution of Bangkok. Switch off your phone and prepare to be surrounded in comfort and relaxation. The fact that we felt like we were in a different and quieter world altogether may have also had something to do with the spa being located so high up – on the 25th floor of the luxury hotel. As we sat in the reception, we looked out to the beautiful Bangkok skyline while watching the hot burning sun slowly set.

The Spa

The spa uses premium local Thai products and imported products by Valmont of Switzerland. The Okura Spa is the epitome of private relaxation, with five luxuriously appointed treatment rooms, including one room with a Jacuzzi for couples.

Signature treatments include the Ta-ke Relief massage, which uses heated bamboo rods; the Okura Gateway massage, which uses the unique healing powers of amethyst crystals, and seasonal therapies based on the essential oils found in herbs such as lemongrass, rosemary, and jojoba, as well as from flowers such as chrysanthemum, jasmine and geranium.

Tried and Tested

We tried the Okura gateway massage, a one-hour aromatherapy massage, but with something not often seen in Bangkok: an amethyst crystal placed on the forehead while the massage takes place. After choosing an essential oil you then proceed onto the massage, which comes at whichever pressure you prefer.

If you’re not open to the healing properties of crystals, this one may not be for you. However if you are, you will be pleasantly surprised. We actually went in with a mild headache but upon finishing the treatment, found that the headache had disappeared.

Worth Nothing

The Okura Prestige Spa centres its treatments around seasons, particularly those of Japan. Currently, the spa is offering an experience based on the Sakura cherry blossom that blooms once a year. The Sakura flower has great prestige in Japan. Celebrated during picnics under the blossoms, a practice known as “hanami”, the flowers are also associated with the fleeting nature of life, reminding us to seize every moment while enjoying what nature has to offer.

Experience the wonders of this stunning flower with the 90-minute Ritual of Sakura treatment. This particular treatment begins with a gentle 10-minute foot bath and cleansing ritual using a Sakura salt scrub to soften the skin. This is followed by a 30-minute exfoliating Sakura glowing body scrub to remove old and dry skin. Finally, a 50-minute massage using essential Sakura oil relaxes and revives tired muscles. It also helps to protect because Sakura is rich in antioxidants that strengthen the body’s ability to fight against oxidative damage. The Ritual of Sakura treatment is available until the end of June, 2018.
