As Group CEO of Eu Yan Sang, Richard Eu heads a network of 300 outlets boasting $230 million in sales and distribution channels in Canada, the US, Australia and South America. This is a far cry from when he first joined in 1989, when the family's traditional Chinese medicinal (TCM) business was in danger of becoming obsolete. Eu is credited with transforming EYS into a modern business providing integrative health care and natural wellness products and services worldwide. For the full year ended June 30, the company reported a net profit of $18.2 million, up 11 percent on-year. Looking ahead Eu plans to chip at the $13 billion TCM market in China. On the drawing board are plans for an $8 million plant in Sichuan province to process and export herbs. On a personal front, Eu realised a youthful dream this year, recording an album of jazz, blues and rock-and-roll with a 12-member band in Paris. Proceeds from the album will go to Rainbow Centre, a charity for children with special needs.
