Co-founder and executive chairman of Raffles Medical Group Loo Choon Yong was named Businessman of the Year at the 2013 Singapore Business Awards (SBA). The award recognised his entrepreneurial spirit and far-sightedness in starting the group and for growing it from just two clinics in 1976 into one of the biggest and most profitable integrated health care groups in Asia. RMG, which runs 78 clinics in Singapore and four medical centres in Hong Kong and Shanghai, posted a 10.3 percent rise in third quarter net profit to $13.9 million on an 8 percent increase in revenue to $85.1 million. Loo is Singapore’s 33rd richest person, according to Forbes, which estimates his net-worth at $893 million. In addition to being a doctor, he also read Law at the University of London and is a barrister from Middle Temple. In January 2013, Loo was appointed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry as Chairman of JTC Corporation. He has been the non-resident Ambassador to Italy since 2006.
