Karen Kooi heads M1, Singapore's third-largest telecoms operator by subscribers and revenue. She first joined the company as its Chief Financial Officer in August 1995 and was a key member of the senior management team, responsible for planning, developing and launching its commercial operations. Under her leadership, M1 invested heavily in enhancing its networks in 2013, committing up to $85 million in April and another $11 million in May to modernise its mobile networks and deploy a nationwide 3G radio network. It launched Singapore's first 4G prepaid mobile service for smartphones in April and in July, introduced internet service MiBox. For the three months ended September, M1 reported a 19.4 percent increase in net profit to $39.6 million on the back of subscriber gains and a rise in mobile data service revenue. M1 added 73,000 mobile customers in the nine months to September, bringing its mobile customer base to 2.13 million.
