Paris Hilton talks music, fans and family

We chat to the heiress ahead of her DJ gig at Studio City Macau this weekend.

It’s hard to get hold of Paris Hilton. This time last month she was at the Cannes Film Festival, partying with Kate Moss at the Chopard party and working the red carpet at the amfAR ball. From there she jetted to Mexico, where (as her Instagram reveals) she stayed at not one but two luxury resorts. Then it was on to New York, where Hilton celebrated her sister Nicky’s baby shower in a suite at the Waldorf Astoria, one of the hundreds of hotels still owned by her family.

And now Hilton is packing her bags for yet another flight. Next on her itinerary is Macau, where she’ll be DJing at Studio City’s Summer Love pool party on June 11. But before she boards the plane for Asia, she tells us about her hectic schedule, her upcoming album and how she caught the bug for spinning.

You’re doing a lot of DJing at the moment, but you’re also a singer. Are you working on any new music?

Yes, I’m always working on new music and was recently in the studio in Miami. I can’t give too much away right now but it’s coming along really well and I’m looking forward to sharing more soon.

You're here to DJ at Studio City. How did you get into DJ-ing?

I’ve always been a huge music lover and enjoy discovering new artists and music. I decided to try DJing years ago and immediately fell in love with it. It’s an amazing feeling to create the music and party for everyone and see the happiness it brings people when you play the music they love.

What else are you working on at the moment?

I’ve been very busy. I’m working on a new apparel line, a new cosmetics line and I have my fourth summer DJ residency starting soon at Amnesia in Ibiza. Then I have a new video game and my 22nd fragrance all coming out later this year. I love to be busy!

You're involved in so many things – you're a singer, DJ, businesswoman, TV star. How do you describe yourself?

I see myself primarily as a businesswoman but also as a music artist, DJ and philanthropist. When I was little my parents and grandfather instilled a strong work ethic in me and encouraged me to pursue my dreams. I always knew that I wanted to have a global brand and to do more than one thing, so I really enjoy what I do and feel very lucky and fortunate.

How has social media changed your life?

Social media is amazing! It has given me a way to directly connect and chat to fans in a way I never could have done before. I often launch contests or ask fans questions or even meet up with fans when I travel – all through connecting on social media. I also enjoy sharing some of my happiest times and moments and letting fans experience them with me.

You're about to become an aunt. How important is family to you?

I can’t begin to describe the feeling, I’m so excited and so thrilled for Nicky. She will be a wonderful mom and I want to be the best aunt I can be. I’m already shopping for my niece and can’t wait to meet her soon.
