BREAD LOVERS UNITE
Already well-loved for its pain au chocolat, croissants and Valrhona chocolate cake, Carlton Hotel’s year-old Tuxedo Café & Pâtisserie has now set out to court the hearts of all bread lovers as well. Rolled fresh out of the oven by chief baker Andrew Loong is a new takeaway bread menu, which runs the gamut from plain and tomato cheese bagels to chocolate sour cherry bread and sugar butter twists. The only down side — you have to put in your order three days in advance.

BUBBLY OVER THAI
With its revamped interior, new chef and new dishes, Jim Thompson: A Thai Restaurant and Wine Bar at Dempsey Hill still knows how to ignite a frenzy for fine Thai cuisine. It is also now one of the select establishments that carry Champagne Devaux (made from the top Pinot Noir crus of the Côte des Bar and Chardonnay from the crus of the Côte des Blancs). Must try pairings are Chef Oat’s Bua Thod (prawn with curry battered bitter leaves) and Neau Yang Gap Nam Jeem Jeaw (beef skewer with spicy tamarind) with a glass of Devaux Grand Reserve, and Gaeng Khew Wan Goong (Green curry with eggplants, sweet basil leaves and prawns ) with the Devaux Blanc de Noirs.

A THOUSAND LOBSTERS
What’s on the menu at MELT ~ The World Café on July 3 and 17? A buffet line of a thousand lobsters prepared in more than 20 ways. Helmed by Chef de Cuisine Lincoln Lim, the two-night-only extravaganza will roll out dishes such as Lobster Sashimi, Cognac-infused Lobster Bisque, Saffron Lobster Stew with Tomato and Kalamanta Olives, Singapore Lobster Laksa and Lobster Thermidor.

Looking almost too cute to eat are Executive Pastry Chef Terence Pang’s whimsical desserts that recall exotic sandy beaches such as Olive Macron Starfish, Rose Almond Sun Hat Cakes and Caramel Mediterranean Salt Truffle Pearls. Available as part of Chihuly Lounge’s Mediterranean-themed summer weekend afternoon tea from now to September 1, the delectable treats complement a no less enticing array of scones, sandwiches and petit canapés such as Grilled King Prawns with Iberico Chorizo Butter Sauce and Braised Chermoula Lamb Shank and Mint Couscous in Flaky Pastry.
