It is 1pm and the Prestige team has been sternly instructed to put down our cameras by cover girl, Ling Fu, who herds us into her kitchen where a sumptous spread awaits. Today’s cuisine is Indonesian — soto ayam, corn fritters, singkong soup and fried chicken. A foodie who clearly excels in the kitchen, Fu regales us with stories of how she first learnt to cook from her grandmother. “At first, it was out of necessity,” she says. “I was going to study in San Francisco and knew that I would miss Asian food, so I learnt all the tricks from her.” The finger-licking fried chicken, for instance, was marinated for three whole days to ensure that it is packed with flavour.
