SEPTEMBER 2015

Unlike a surprisingly substantial number of our current team, I wasn’t part of the Prestige Hong Kong staff when the magazine launched in 2005, but I was already a reader. I bought the inaugural issue off the newsstand, and that same copy sits on my bookshelf at home to this day. Glamorous, intelligent, international – from its debut, Prestige was a magazine I wanted to work on, and I remember cold-calling my way into an interview with the publisher, Anne Lim-Chaplain. Alas, at the time, there were no vacancies.
I wormed my way onto the team eventually by some accident of fate or luck, and with this issue, marking 10 years since the launch of Prestige, we bid farewell to the woman who not only founded the magazine in this city, but also in many ways made it what it is today. It seems only fitting then that while we pay tribute to the tales that made Prestige what it was over the last decade, we also look ahead to the stories that will shape the brand as it moves into a new era.
That’s why, alongside a mammoth retrospective of key moments in the magazine’s history (page 97) and a look back at some of our favourite soirées in the last 10 years (page 123), we focus our energies on new faces, such as this month’s cover star Doona Bae, who isn’t just part of the Korean wave that’s taking over music and cinema – she’s leading the storm into Hollywood with unexpected thought and consideration. Her story comes to life on page 242. We also highlight other rising stars of fashion, art, design and other lifestyle fundamentals in “The Next Big Thing” (page 264), check in with a few up-and-coming society darlings (page 254), and query 10 foodies on their culinary hopes for Hong Kong.
Models both legendary and budding feature in a special section this month, bringing together one super (Cindy Crawford), one ingénue (Ming Xi) and one former first lady (Carla Bruni). If you haven’t got your fix of fashion yet, there’s Prestige Runway to keep you satiated. And then there’s our typical mix of – and we hope this Prestige maxim isn’t becoming too trite, 10 years on – all the best things in life, from fast cars and fine wines to fancy hotels and fun parties.
We thank you for your indulgence all these years, and hope to engage you further in the years to come.
