With seven effervescent ladies to helm the recent Yellow Brick Road Charity Brunch at One Farrer Hotel & Spa on Sunday December 11, 2016, guests of all ages had fun while doing their bit for the beneficiaries of the Prestige-Yellow Ribbon Children Fund (PYRCF) — all of whom are underprivileged kids with incarcerated parents.
Doubling up as emcees for the day were PYRCF co-chairs Natasha Liok and Stephanie Lee, who began the proceedings with a friendly reminder: “Don’t think of this as another event or gala. We are all kaki nang (friends and kins).”
No surprise then that there were not just Rémy Martin cognacs for every table and aisles of buffet stations laden with charcuterie, sushi, roasts and enough sweet treats to make the tooth fairy watch on in glee, but also foosball and video games played on an ultra-big screen. A bar stocked with extra wine, champagne, whisky and craft beers from Icon Channel (that could all be purchased for a donation) also served those with a thirst, or in need of extra bravado before belting out karaoke in front of the appreciative crowd.
The PYRCF committee — comprising Laura Lim, Marilyn Lum, Michelle Eng, Tan Min-Li, Lynn Yeow-De Vito, Liok and Lee — led in Christmas carols and also spread infectious cheer as they oversaw a high-speed Christmas tree decorating competition. A raffle draw rounded up the affair with generous prizes from the likes of Aura, &Sons, Osteria Art, One Farrer Hotel & Spa and Rémy Martin. Door gifts from FIL, Murad and Passage New York meant that no guest left empty-handed.
All in all, some $150,000 was raised by the end of brunch, which will ensure that the children of incarcerated parents will continue to benefit from the programmes run by The Yellow Brick Road Project. As the adage goes: Tis’ the season for giving.
