International SeaKeepers Society Asia Awards Dinner

The guardians of the sea called on boat owners to help with ocean conservation efforts.

The location was apt. Surrounded by some 800 species of marine animals housed at the S.E.A. Aquarium at Resorts World Sentosa, ocean conservationists, maritime industry leaders and the boating community came together to renew their commitment to preserving the health of the fragile underwater ecosystem. A signature event of the International SeaKeepers Society Asia, the invite-only dinner saw world-famous oceanographic explorer Fabian Cousteau and marine biologist Dr Sylvia Earle join SeaKeepers Asia President Julian Chang in the call for boat owners to loan their boats out for educational outreach programmes and the deployment of oceanographic instruments (thus enabling scientists to allocate their funds to research rather than vessel costs). During his turn at the podium, Cousteau — with schools of fishes swimming behind him — further drove home the message: “With every drink we take, every breath we take, we take in part of the ocean.”
