Volkswagen has launched an all-new version of Germany’s most popular MPV, the Touran, in Singapore. Tailored with families in mind, the new 1.4-litre ride boasts a new design, increased interior space and cargo capacity, better technology and systems, and a more efficient powertrain.
Available in two equipment levels, the Trendline and Comfortline, the new Touran is fitted with a direct-injection turbocharged 1.4 TSI engine that delivers 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. And what that does is to propel the car to go from naught to 100km/h in just 8.9 seconds, while taking in only 5.6 litres of fuel for every 100km. Other than that, the MPV has also been equipped with better technology for its comfort and convenience features, including new LED headlights, dynamic cornering function and electronic parking brake with Auto Hold.
The Trendline sports leather upholstery, cruise control, electronic vehicle immobiliser and the new Pure Air Climatronic system as standard, while the Comfortline comes with a multifunction steering wheel, rear view camera and panoramic sunroof.
Designed to be 130mm longer than its predecessor, the seven-seater has even more room for everyone. Legroom is the second row has an extra 40mm while the third row will enjoy an extra 54mm. Headroom is also improved by 13mm. Full luggage space is at 1,857 litres when the seats in the second and third row are folded down. Outside, the design of the car has also been completely reworked to improve its aerodynamics, while looking sleeker and more powerful.
And since the car is meant for families, safety is of paramount importance. As such, the new Touran boasts a number of assistance systems available for the first time in this model, including the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System (automatically slows a vehicle down if it is involved in an accident), Front Assist with City Emergency Braking (automatic braking in the event of an imminent collision) and Pre-Crash proactive occupant protection (ensures the best possible protection by the airbag and belt system).
VIP guests will be able to view the car this evening at a beautiful home along Chestnut Crescent, while the public will officially be able to view the latest Touran in Volkswagen showrooms from June 25 onwards.
Since its debut in 2003, this seven-seater has driven into the hands of over 1.9 million people around the world. With this newest generation, we’re sure we’ll see the numbers hit through the roof.
