Want a slimmer and more sculpted face without the gruelling workouts and diets? Suhana Ab recommends the best products and treatments in facial contouring
1. Estée Lauder Resilience Lift Firming/Sculpting Oil-in-Crème Infusion
As chronic dry skin impedes skin’s natural lifting power, Estée Lauder has introduced this moisturiser packed with ultra-restorative oils such as coconut, avocado, jojoba and soybean that nourishes skin deeply. Combine this with a new densifying complex — which includes grape and rice extracts — and advanced lifting complexes that boosts the production of collagen, elastin and laminin, this product firms the skin, resulting in more sculpted facial contours. It may be used twice a day, or as a weekly 10-minute mask.
2. Clarins Shaping Facial Lift
The French brand was one of the first to release a serum specifically formulated to help achieve a V-shape face. It contains what it calls Total V Contouring Power — a potent complex comprising guarana extract, kaki extracts, zerumbet ginger and caffeine (a lipolytic active ingredient) — that helps drain excess fluid and purge excess fats from the face. Apart from helping the face to look slimmer, it also gives it an instant lift, thanks to organic oat sugars that help to tighten the skin naturally.
3. Chanel Le Lift Recontouring Masque de Massage
Chanel has introduced a massage mask to its signature Le Lift collection to aid in the achievement of a sculpted look. As with the other products in the line, it contains 3.5-DA, the active ingredient that encourages the production of youth proteins to achieve firmer skin. Neroli extract, which is known for its draining effect, further brings decongesting action to connective tissue, resulting in dermis that is firmer and denser. To maximise effects, Chanel has devised a simple four-step massage technique to complement the use of the mask.
4. Clinique Sculptwear Contouring Massage Cream Mask & Sonic System Massage Treatment Applicator
Think of the tandem use of this massage cream and applicator as a one-minute facial fitness programme that leads to youthful contours. Containing extracts of bamboo and pea, as well as glucosamine, the mask boosts collagen production to reveal firmer, plumper skin. The use of the massage applicator — which registers 9,000 vibrations per minute — boosts blood circulation, giving skin a radiant glow and a beautiful lifting effect.
Ultherapy @ TLC Lifestyle Practice
#11-04/05 Pacific Plaza
The only FDA-approved treatment for skin lifting, Ultherapy has earned itself a celebrity following including Jennifer Aniston, Cate Blanchett and Courtney Cox. This is largely due to its effectiveness at lifting and sculpting your skin for a V-shape appearance. The non-surgical treatment taps on ultrasound energy sent down to your skin via a wand-like device that heats skin tissue at various depths, instructing your skin to produce new collagen and make it appear firmer. During treatment, the face is segmented into sections (forehead, cheeks, jawline and neck) with the doctor — in this case, Dr Wang Xiaoxuan — systematically positioning the device at each of these areas to give it an ultrasound “shot”. On average, it takes 100 shots per section to register maximum effect. Be warned though: Even with numbing cream, this hurts (think of a thick rubber band snapping against your face). However, the results makes it worth the while. Skin instantly feels tighter, plumper and appears sculpted along the jawline. Effects are said to get better with time, specifically after three months and depending on your skin, it can last up to two years.
HIFU Plus @ Cambridge Medical Group
Ngee Ann City, Tower B #08-05A1
HIFU (an acronym for high intensity focused ultrasound) is an aesthetic procedure that relies on ultrasound energy to lift ageing skin. The latest iteration of this technology is the fifth generation HIFU Plus, which is said to be more effective than its predecessors for its ability to directly target the connective tissues in the face. It is a quick and completely painless procedure without any down time. It is administered at Cambridge Medical by Dr Lee Mun Heng, who deftly manoeuvres the device across the jowls and cheeks in swift upward movements. The device delivers heat energy into the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system), fascia, deep dermis and subcutaneous fibrous tissue to jump-start the natural collagen rebuilding process. Although results vary across individuals, repeated monthly procedures can achieve more defined jowls and a rejuvenated complexion. The effects are purported to last for a year.
