Le Rouge Laboratory: Visit The New Chanel Beauty Pop-Up

The immersive, laboratory-style space features makeup stations, Instagrammable secret passageways and a sleek bar.

Gabrielle Chanel once described red as the colour of life, of blood. So besotted was she with the bold hue that it painted her signature pout, and inspired the classic crimson lipstick from the House’s first makeup collection in 1924. Today, the brand continues to celebrate the colour with the Chanel Le Rouge: The House’s modern love letter to the vermillion shade. First launched in 2014 as the debut makeup collection of Lucia Pica, it captured red in different textures and formulas. This month, Chanel takes its devotion to the colour on a bigger scale, with a laboratory-style pop-up entirely dedicated to Le Rouge.

Your experience begins in the Red Factory. At its centre sits a red acrylic cage, encircling large industrial tanks containing myriad lipsticks and nail polishes. Above, a machine turns the classic clear flacon of the Chanel No. 5 a crimson hue.

Experimentation beckons with makeup stations located around the area, spotlighting the six shades of Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme and Rouge Allure liquid powder. In a corner, a digital wall of moving lips reveals the hues and textures of the new ranges while hiding a secret passageway to the Red Corridor. Resembling the imagined interior of the limited edition Chanel No. 5, the path takes visitors through the silhouettes of the flacon’s geometric lines.

Leaving the passageway, you’ll find yourself at the Red Bar: A lounge with cosy nooks, casual seating and counter seats for you to sip exclusively concocted red cocktails. As with all Chanel beauty pop-ups, this will likely blow up on your Instagram feed. The Chanel Le Rouge Laboratory opens fromOctober 17-21, at 72-13 Mohamed Sultan Road.
