Housing Horsepower

Renowned supercar design firm Pininfarina creates first Asia residence in Singapore.

Housing Horsepower

Fiery red is juxtaposed against vivid black, adorned with robust ridges reminiscent of automotive grilles. Sleek lines and streamlined contours gleam with sheer power, representing speed and fluidity.
It might sound like we're describing a supercar, but we're not. This is Ferra, the newest luxury condominium launched by local property developer Far East Organisation.
Capitalising on unique architecture and luxury living, it debuts as the first residential home in Asia designed by Pininfarina Extra, part of Italian design house Pininfarina – the very team known for its iconic car designs, including the Enzo Ferrari and Maserati GranTurismo.
Ferra stands at 1 Leonie Hill, mere minutes from the nation's prime shopping locale, where its distinctive facade will add vibrancy to Singapore's prestigious District 9 landscape. It saw the release of 30 out of its 104 units during its May 1 launch, with prices starting from $2.3 million.
This avant-garde architectural gem features aesthetic elements derived from Pininfarina's car design heritage, including balconies that invoke the image of perforations on a sports car's grilles.
The ingenious architects have also managed to strike a balance between form and function in the designing of this magnificent condominium. This, along with the harmonious contrast of the two bold colours, is significant of duality – a key motif in Pininfarina's designs.
Naturally, Ferra's unique exterior conceals a bespoke interior, offering a semi-white plan where homebuyers can customise their living spaces. A selection from a range of themes has also been prepared for their convenience.
This lavish residence arrives hot on the heels of Singapore's recent ranking as one of the top three cities worldwide that are most relevant to “High Net Worth Individuals”, as revealed by Knight Frank's 2013 Wealth Report.
Ferra is the fourth development under Far East Organisation's Inessence brand. This ultra-luxury initiative is defined by four key attributes – bespoke homes, thoughtfully designed and crafted by master designers, and located in an elite address.
“One of the trademarks of homes under our Inessence brand is the signature design. Pininfarina's unique design experience with luxury cars, products, architecture and interiors is brought to the fore in Ferra,” says Chia Boon Kuah, chief operating officer for the Property Sales Business Group in Far East Organisation.
Pininfarina was established in 1930 by Battista “Pinin” Farina, noted for his close partnership with Ferrari and for being the most acclaimed car designer of his time. The company later extended its design capabilities beyond the automobile sector with the creation of Pininfarina Extra. Both businesses enjoy great renown today as global leaders in the design field, ensuring an ideal blend of aesthetic appeal and cutting-edge technology in their creations.
Paolo Pininfarina, chairman of the Pininfarina group, explains that Ferra captures “Pininfarina's design DNA, characterised by the values of elegance, essentiality and innovation”.
“We are very proud to have identified a specific expressive language and a strong aesthetic personality for Ferra's project while, at the same time, being able to insert it harmoniously in the architectural context of Singapore.”
