Wena Poon

Wena Poon

Not yet a household name — but who should be — Wena Poon is a Singapore-born, Texas-based lawyer-author-photographer known as much for exemplifying the best of transnational literature as for her sassy, kick-ass prose.

A six-time novelist, she first caught our attention with Lions in Winter (2007), her Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award-listed debut, before taking readers on an epic 742-page Star Wars-meets-Narnia adventure in the Biophilia Omnibus (2009). Alex y Robert, her 2010 effort about a female Texan bullfighter in Spain was turned into a 10-episode radio series by the BBC.
The very definition of prolific, she released Maxine, Aoki, Beto + Me and Novillera: Alex y Robert 2 this year alone and is already on the quest to revive the wuxia genre in English with her upcoming Hoshimaruhon trilogy.
