Blame it on the weather. Singapore's first-ever female Red Lion was due to dazzle on August 9, but to our collective disappoint, cloud cover got in the way of proceedings and the much-loved Red Lions — the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) parachute team — was forced to cancel their annual National Day jump. But, no matter. By virtue of being the only woman in an elite team mostly comprising commandos, and with 280 jumps under her belt, young girls and their parents already think Third Warrant Officer Shirley Ng rules the skies. An advanced rigger with the Aerial Delivery Wing, Special Operations Tactical Support Centre, Ng also took part in the eight-way competition at the World Parachuting Championships in Relative Work in Dubai last year as part of the SAF's first Red Lions team.
