CapitaLand's Liew will have spent 17 years as group president and chairman when he retires in June 2013, including his time as president of Pidemco Land, which merged with DBS Land in 2000 to form the new company. The success of Southeast Asia's largest developer under his watch can be measured in many ways: Most recently, it received six awards at the prestigious Euromoney Real Estate Awards 2012, including the Best Developer in Singapore award. It achieved another milestone earlier last year when it launched Singapore's most expensive suburban condominium, Sky Habitat. The group reported an 85.1% increase in net profits to $148.5 million for the quarter to September 2012; revenue grew 12.9% to $686.9 million. Liew gained the respect of colleagues and employees alike when he cut his own pay by 20% in 2008 to preserve jobs at the company.
