Founded by Jovan Yap's grandfather, Moh Seng Cranes has a reputation for providing prompt, reliable and efficient mobile and lorry crane services the last 50 years.
Yap joined the family business as a labourer at age 21, earning just $400 per month for holding positions such as mobile crane operator.
Making the Mark
When the financial crisis hit, Yap was forced to consider diversification. To win projects, the company provided better service and more efficient solutions to clients. Within a year, the recipient of last year's Rotary-ASME Entrepreneur of the Year award had increased sales and established a reputation in the construction, shipping, marine and logistics sectors.
Yap has plans to bolster the existing fleet with the latest technology, venture into the shipyard sector and expand his reach regionally. While the company's success is important, it's also important “to never forget one's humble beginnings”, he says. “I will always remember how the business was started in a shophouse and our staff's contribution to the company.”
