As Group CEO of Singtel, Chua Sock Koong oversees nearly US$15 billion in revenue and 468 million customers worldwide, ranking her at 91st in the Forbes' 2013 World's Most Powerful Women. She believes the future for the telco will be in the digital space, specifically new content — such as apps for smartphones — and cloud-computing. In May, SingTel outlined a transformation strategy, which includes allocating up to $1.58 billion over the next three years to pursue strategic acquisitions in the digital space. SingTel and Samsung have also announced a partnership to help develop and drive adoption of next-generation mobile communication, infotainment and technology services in Asia, including jointly offering applications and digital services to customers of SingTel Group companies. More recently, SingTel became the first non-Indian company to apply to acquire a 100-percent stake in an Indian operator under new relaxed foreign direct investment rules.
