Founder and Executive Chairman
Ho Kwon Ping is founder and executive chairman of hotel and resort operator, Banyan Tree Holdings. In 2013, the group added a third brand — serviced apartments under the name Cassia — to its award-winning Banyan Tree and Angsana brands. Ho is also seeking to expand Banyan Tree's presence in Europe and the Americas amid signs that their economies are recovering. The resort operator plans to revive projects in Spain, Greece and Mexico, which it abandoned after the 2008 global financial crisis. It will also open Banyan Tree properties in Morocco, India and China in 2014, and add another nine properties in China in 2015. Ho was the 48th richest Singaporean in 2013, with an estimated net-worth of $437.1 million, according to Forbes, which notes that the group is mulling spinning off and listing some its Southeast Asian hotels into a real estate investment trust. For the second quarter ended June, Banyan Tree's profit more than doubled to S$1.7 million on a three percent increase in revenue to $81.7 million.
