Pocket Sun founded SoGal while residing in Los Angeles to build a global community that empowers enterprising individuals. It set the stage for SoGal Ventures, the first female-led millennial venture capital firm. “It was scary to think that we were going to ‘disrupt’ the slow-moving, male-dominated VC industry,” she reveals. Just over a year old, the firm already has a portfolio of 18 investments including popular fitness membership GuavaPass.

However, things weren’t always smooth-sailing. One of her lowest points came when her American work visa application failed to pass the computer-generated lottery system. “There was nothing I could do, but it proved to be the most important turning point in my life and led me to the current path,” she recounts. Today, Sun is based in Singapore, engaging with potential investors. She leads by example and by redefining herself in the face of a major setback, continues to inspire her team to be empowered.

“Now I’ve realised how much impact I can make on the world and nothing will stop me from moving forward,” she says.
