Andrew Tang

Race Car Driver

Andrew Tang has a dream: To become Singapore’s first Formula 1 driver. He may well be on his way, after emerging tops in this year’s Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand. The first non-New Zealander to win the racing series, he has trained under the McLaren team’s Young Driver Development Programme since 2012. “Winning is just the passport to more hard work,” he says. “There is always someone else working to be better.” Tang discovered his love for fast cars at age seven, when his father would take him karting in Sepang, Malaysia. “I have always loved the adrenaline rush and the feeling of being in control of a car,” he says. Tang, who recently completed his Basic Military Training (BMT), intends to train in Sepang and participate in races around Asia and Europe. “The best part about doing something you love is that you never feel like it is work.”
