After chancing upon an article on LED lighting four years ago, former Credit Suisse banker Adrian Ong decided it was time to put his first degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering to use (he also has a masters in Finance from Imperial College). “I wanted to start a business which encourages people to go green,” he says. Thus, LED specialist E-Lume, which has outfitted establishments such as the Park Regis Singapore hotel, was birthed. Last year, it received the Top 100 Singapore Excellence Award.
Choosing to walk the path of a traditional Asian son, he juggles duties at E-Lume with his responsibilities at AM Aerospace, the family business which deals with aerospace engines and aircraft hardware, and is also a director of equity and investment firm AM Investment. As if he has too much free time on his hands to spare, he has also recently established Twenty-One, a media and IT firm, with a partner. Its flagship product is a little device that can be plugged into the back of a TV, turning it into an instant PC.
