I’m Lil’ Kim

Stealing quiet moments from the life of the effervescent KIM LIM, Suhana Ab uncovers a family girl with a big philanthropic heart and even bigger plans for the future
Just one year on Instagram and Kim Lim has already amassed more than 15,000 followers — and she's barely even trying.
If you ask us, the reasons to follow @kimmylecute are plenty. For one, the 22-year-old is very easy on the eyes. She is style-conscious, pulls off fashion trends flawlessly and owns an impressive wardrobe that showcases a good mix of goodies from luxury labels to high-street brands.
In real life, behind what some people might define as a public persona, is a girl who is truly as stylish as her 705 (at time of print) photographs on her account. And here's something many may not be able to tell from the posts — she has a warm heart too.
Lim, who is currently studying business management at the Singapore Institute of Management, has big dreams of establishing a charitable foundation particularly aimed at helping the elderly. This stems from her 15 years of volunteering her time with various bodies, including the Apex Day Rehabilitation Centre for the Elderly and her family-run Operation RedShirt. Just the other day, Lim was heading a 40-man team to hand out food packages to the needy in celebration of Chinese New Year in the Toa Payoh, Ang Mo Kio and Chai Chee heartlands.
Being involved in these causes is something she feels passionately about. The young lady credits her business tycoon father, Peter Lim, for this. “My dad has been supporting various charitable organisations since I was young. It just rubbed off on me and today, I share that same passion,” she says.
The first step towards establishing her goal, Lim explains, is to study other organisations in the field. Upon graduating in about a year's time, she hopes to understudy organisations, such as Unicef, to learn more about their day-to-day operations.
To further broaden her experience and corporate knowledge, Lim also plans to put in the hours at the different businesses her father owns. This she intends to do by working from the ground up as it will help give her a better understanding of how they operate. “My dad has repeatedly reminded me to be humble and he leads by example. He speaks and treats other people with respect and I do the same,” she adds.
Growing up, Lim shares that she has always been close to her father. The only daughter and eldest of two children, she admits that she is doted on. “He got me a beautiful panther ring for Christmas; I absolutely love it.”
Even though, both Lim and her father run busy schedules, they make it a point to have lunch or dinner together every week with the rest of the family. After all, Lim says, a family that eats together stays together.
Presents aside, what Lim appreciates more is her father's gift of time. “He is always there when I need him and takes the time to listen and give me advice,” she says. “One that particularly resonates with me is ‘when there is a will, there is a way' — so simple and yet so true.”
