What's a golden jubilee without some made-for-sg50 gifts? We feel the love from some of the world's most storied brands

To Singapore With Love

LOUIS VUITTON

LV

When the Petite Malle appeared in Nicolas Ghesquière's debut collection for Autumn/Winter 2014, editors immediately established it as the season's It Bag, and Louis Vuitton's new icon. What makes the diminutive boxy bag more covetable now is its new commemorative value — the French maison has released a special jubilee edition so Singaporeans now have a Petite Malle to call our own.
Possibly this season's trophy buy (only 38 pieces have been created), the Petite Malle Monogram Rouge is presented in the brand's distinctive monogram canvas. It is trimmed with Royal Rouge leather while world traveller Albert Khan's signature crosses are rendered in white, as a nod to the Singapore flag. Embossed in the interior of every Petite Malle Monogram Rouge are the words: “Limited Edition Singapore Jubilee 2015”. Gilded metal parts in yellow gold complete the tribute.

Another standout from Louis Vuitton's Singapore signature collection is the Escale Worldtime watch, which premiered at Baselworld 2014 as the maison's first hand-free timepiece that allows the reading of 24 timezones at once.
One detail that distinguishes the timepiece is its colour-saturated dial that takes a La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton craftsman 50 hours to paint by hand. To mark the nation's 50th anniversary of independence, the limited-edition version includes Singapore as one of the capitals to grace the dial, with the initials “SIN” emblazoned in distinctive red. The vibrancy of our national colours are again represented by a polished white gold case with satin finish, complete with a black hand-stitched alligator strap with matching white gold buckle.
The words “Louis Vuitton Singapore” are also engraved on the oscillating weight, which can be viewed through the sapphire crystal case back.

BRAUN BÜFFEL

Braun%20Buffel

With Singapore as one of its key markets since the early 1980s, the German leather goods maker has released the Stellar bag, named for the stars on the national flag. Conceptualised by creative director Damiano Biella, it is characterised by vivid red and white leather and a quintessentially Southeast Asian batik interior lining. Each top-handle bag comes with a specially made serial plate.
There are two styles to choose from: One in a colour block of red and white, while the other features Braun Büffel's bull monogram. (Refreshing the monogram was one of the things high on Biella's to-do list when he joined the brand last year.) Both styles are limited to only 50 pieces.
Available at ION Orchard, Suntec City Mall, Westgate, Changi Airport Terminals 1 & 2

FERRARI

Ferarri

Of all the tributes decked out in the colours of the flag, the F12berlinetta (named on Forbes' list of 10 Most Expensive Cars in 2014) goes the extra mile. Ital Auto, Ferrari's official dealer here, revs up the tribute with a one-of-a-kind supercar finished in a custom metallic red, which it has christened Rosso Singapore. Complementing the paint job is the strategic use of Bianco Italia (a white hue) on the front spoiler, side sills, rear diffuser, wheels and highlights on wing mirror.
Other design variations the SG50 Ferrari F12berlinetta sports are its two-tone racing stripe — running down the length of the car — and its racing seats with embroidered Merlion crests on the headrests. A special “Singapore 50th Anniversary Edition 1/1” logo is painted on the lower rim of the steering wheel and on inner door sills.
Enquiries can be made through Ital Auto

FABER-CASTELL

Faber%20Castell%202

Who would have thought that it would be a Nuremberg-based stationer that reminds us all that 1965 — the year Singapore gained independence — was the “Year of the Wood Snake” in the Chinese lunar calendar? Having discovered this little nugget of information in the course of its research, Faber-Castell selected snakewood as the key material for its Graf von Faber-Castell SG50 Snakewood Special Edition pens.
Aptly embodying Singapore's resilience and strength through the eras, snakewood is one of the hardest timbers in the world and is especially prized in the making of musical instruments. It is also a subtle allusion to Faber-Castell's origins in wood — founder Kaspar Faber started off as a cabinet-maker before he found success making pencils.
A propelling pencil, a propelling ballpoint pen, a rollerpen and a fountain pen make up the collection. Presented in an elegant dark brown wooden gift box, these 50 four-piece sets are individually numbered from 1 to 50. The number is indicated on the decorative ring around the top of each writing instrument, while “SG50” is engraved on the top.

HUBLOT

Hublot

With 2015 being the 10th anniversary of its Big Bang timepiece, Hublot gets in on the action by dedicating a new iteration to our country's 50th birthday.
Exclusive to Singapore, the yellow gold version of the “Red Dot” Bang is limited to 10 pieces only. Zoom in on the details and you will see the 10-o'clock index on the dial in red, a casual reference to Singapore's nickname, the “Little Red Dot”. The “Big Bang 10 Years” emblem is also rendered in red on the crystal case back. The chronograph also has a specially produced skeletonised mechanical movement that can be viewed through a “grille” dial. Staying faithful to Hublot's “Art of Fusion” DNA, a leather strap with a rugged patina is stitched onto its signature rubber strap.
A set of 50 “Red Dot” Bang watches has also been made in Hublonium (the Swiss watchmaker's own metal alloy of magnesium and aluminium), which makes the 44-mm ticker light yet highly durable.

CHOW TAI FOOK

Chow%20Tai%20Fook%201

Living up to its design-driven reputation, the Hong Kong jeweller joins in the celebrations with its Singapore 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Collection that cleverly reimagines landmarks and emblematic symbols, and incorporates them into unusual designs.
Among our favourites is a pair of 18k rose gold earrings with diamonds encrusted on a textured scale-like design inspired by the Merlion statue at Marina Bay; an 18k rose gold necklace in the shape of a crescent moon, with diamonds pavè-set into triangular spikes alluding to the five stars; and an origami-esque necklace, with diamonds pavè-set on alternate angular surfaces, which designers modelled after the facade of ION Orchard — a nod to the opening of Chow Tai Fook's official flagship boutique at the retail juggernaut earlier this year.
Available at ION Orchard

JAEGER-LECOULTRE

JLC

Yet another covetable Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece has been launched — the Grande Reverso Night & Day Singapore Special Edition in steel. Celebrated as one of the true classics in the world of watches, the Reverso boasts a dial that flips over to reveal a canvas perfect for personalised engravings or enamel work. This limited-edition SG50 piece comes embellished with the Singapore map and the years of independency engraved below.
The commemorative timepiece is limited to 50 pieces only.
Available exclusively at ION Orchard and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands

SALVATORE FERRAGAMO

Ferragamo

An enduring favourite since its debut in 1978, the Vara pump's fame has been perpetuated via a gorgeous myriad of colours, fabrics and skins. Come National Day, Salvatore Ferragamo will launch a special edition to mark Singapore's 50th anniversary.
Crafted in red calf leather and decorated with white grosgrain bows, every pair bears a metal plaque with the “Singapore 50th Anniversary” stamp. This symbolic reinterpretation extends to the brand's Varina flats and the Ginny handbag, both of which are sister variations spawned from the Vara bow.
The Ginny handbag will be available at all Salvatore Ferragamo Singapore boutiques, while the Vara and Varina shoes retail exclusively at Takashimaya Department Store

MONTBLANC

Montblanc

Montblanc may have ventured into leather goods, watches and jewellery but nothing is more fitting than the iconic Meisterstück — regarded as a legend among writing instruments — to pay tribute to a nation.
For its SG50 moment, the commemorative range of Meisterstuck White Solitaire writing instruments — comprising a fountain pen, rollerball and ballpoint pen — feature caps and barrels in white lacquer and red gold fittings, topped off with the six-pointed White Star logo. The city's skyline graces the forepart of the writing instruments, while the Merlion's head and the “SG50” logo adorns the Au750 gold nib of the fountain pen.
Only 200 pieces of the rollerball and ballpoint pens each have been produced, while the fountain pen is limited to 100 pieces. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Pathlight School's Poor and Needy Fund, which will help special needs children reach their fullest potential in both academic and life skills.
Available at all Montblanc boutiques
