Natasha Chiam grew up in Australia, while Andrew Lie grew up in the US, Singapore and Hong Kong, which made deciding on a venue for their May 8 wedding celebrations a tad tricky. After much discussion, the couple decided on California. Chiam explains: “We wanted to have the wedding in a place where all our friends could meet. Andrew was born in Los Angeles and we loved the architecture of the glass at Wayfarers Chapel, so California it was.”
The couple were joined by 130 family members and friends who flew in from all over the world. The celebrations began with the solemnisation ceremony at the beautiful chapel, known for its tall redwood trees, picturesque gardens and ocean views.
The couple's dinner reception was held at the La Venta Inn, Palos Verdes Estates — guests dined on a sumptuous spread, drank fine wine and made merry. The programme was kept simple and the couple gamely answered questions about each other while sitting back-to-back. The best man and maid-of-honour, as well as the bride and groom's respective dads gave speeches. Father of the groom Jimmy Lie expressed with much emotion how proud he was of his son and wished him all the happiness in the next phase of his life.
Following the after-party at the Terranea Resort, the newlyweds retired to their suite and enjoyed their first meal as man and wife. The midnight meal, a picnic hamper comprising dishes from the reception dinner, wedding cake and a bottle of champagne for the couple to enjoy privately, was put together by the events manager. “It was a very nice gesture and that was the first time that we were alone as a married couple — a really special moment,” says Chiam.

How They Met
Through a mutual friend during a night out. The duo got along instantly, something that the bride cites as unusual for they are both reserved by nature.
First Date
Lie made the first move and took Chiam out for dinner at Luke's Oyster Bar & Chop House at Ann Siang Hill. They hit it off right away.
The Proposal
The groom proposed at the Park Hyatt Tokyo during a last-minute trip he had planned for them. They were overlooking the city from their room — Lie said that out of the millions of people in the world, they had managed to find each other. He then got down on one knee and popped the question.
