Prestige 16th Anniversary Ball

It was a night of revelry that celebrated firm friendships.

With good friends in attendance, we certainly partied the night away. At 16 years young, one might say it was all about high energy at our annual Prestige Anniversary Ball — what with a theme like “Kaleidoscope” to rock the ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore.

Past the requisite red carpet and photo walls, the cavernous anteroom was designed as a chromatic wonderland with a silvered chandelier and prism wall features refracting light. With the Aston Martin DB11 parked in the foyer, those with a love for sleek aerodynamic lines could also channel their inner James Bond. Charles Heidsieck champagne was the order of day during cocktail hour, as were picture-taking for posterity.

Emceed by Timothy Nga, the gala proper (a partnership with Visa Infinite) kick-started with elegant performance piece Flow and the EFX Show of high-tech lights and lasers by special effects specialist Kiki Tay. Apart from the five-course spread by Chef Massimo Pasquarelli, a key highlight of the evening was the presentation of the annual Prestige Award (presented by Tumi) to style icon Susanna Han, who moved the 500 over guests with her acceptance speech.

“For those who know me, my mantra has always been drama or pyjamas...When I was young, you would call me a tom boy. My clothes were all hand me downs from my cousins and aunts. And I never cared about fashion until adolescence. I came from a humble family. We only got one set of clothes yearly on Chinese New Year. My late mum could sew very well, and once a year I would get a set of beautiful clothes. And thankfully for home economics, I learnt to sew, and that started my journey into fashion. Fashion can be bought but style is eternal, and so is love. I want to thank my husband — I think he is my perfect accessory — for loving me enough to endure my antics!” Han said to applause.

In our first step towards sartorial gender equality, our anonymous judges also named our Ball’s first Most Stylish Gentleman (presented by Ermenegildo Zegna) — an honour unanimously awarded to the always dapper Darren Cheong. Ten Most Stylish Ladies and a Most Stylish Couple were also named during the evening of good fun and cheer.

In another move that broke tradition, our dessert banquet this year was swapped out for a supper buffet of local delights such as Mee Siam and Kueh Pie Tee, which provided much needed sustenance to party-goers who came off the reverberating dance floor.

And post-party sustenance was exactly what was needed when this year we had a house DJ and special guests the likes of Shabnam Arashan and Ginny and Richard Wiluan to rule the turn tables. The Macallan whisky and craft beers (from Icon Channel) rounded up the festivities that extended into the early hours of the morning.

To all our friends who joined us on this special occasion, thank you.
