Played before a terrace packed with the city's diplomatic corps, the Diplomat's Cup kicked off the annual Triple Crown series in March. Five teams — representing Americas, Oceania, Asia, Europe, and Africa — competed for the coveted cup, with Asia eventually emerging triumphant. Outstanding defence, fast runs and sportsmanship elicited cheers from the terrace, especially in the finals when Satinder Garcha captained his team to outplay second-placed Africa 13-6½. Needless to say, ever-flowing champagne and canapés also featured heavily during the tea-time play for spectators.
