Crossing Borders

Besides marking Singapore's 50th year of independence, 2015 also marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and China. To celebrate this milestone, HaKaren Art Gallery organised a Singapore-China Art Exchange exhibition which kicked off in Beijing in April, before making its way to Singapore. The local leg of this two-part event was held at Ion Art Gallery and graced by Xiao Jiang Hua, cultural counsellor with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China (Singapore), and Ma Hong Ying, Director of China Cultural Centre in Singapore. Curated by the founder of HaKaren Art Gallery, Derek Tse, the showcase presented over 50 works of art by prominent artists from both countries, including celebrated local artist and former Member of Parliament, Dr Ho Kah Leong and respected Chinese painter, Yuan Yun Fu.
