SENTEBALE POLO CUP, ABU DHABI
When Prince Harry calls, everyone comes running. So it was no surprise Sienna Guillory, Dan Stevens, Sir Jackie Stewart, Geri Halliwell and her fiancé Christian Horner all turned up at the 2014 Sentebale Polo Cup Presented by Royal Salute World Polo that Prince Harry hosted at the end of last year – even though they did have to fly to Abu Dhabi to be there.
The gathered guests cheered Prince Harry's team to a hard-won victory before joining him for dinner in an enormous pitchside marquee. And while everyone sipped on Royal Salute whisky, Prince Harry took to the stage to say a few words about the charity Sentebale, which he co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho.
“Tonight, in Abu Dhabi, at the fifth Sentebale Polo Cup, you can help support us in our mission to provide the children and young people of Lesotho with the childhood so many of us take for granted,” he said.
“The money raised this evening will go towards teaching many more HIV-positive young people how to live with the virus. Our aim is that we will start to tackle the stigma surrounding HIV, which after all is the greatest hurdle for those living with it. We will improve self-esteem, quality of life and ultimately extend life expectancy for the next generation of Basotho people.”
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you encourage well-heeled guests to dig deep into their pockets for a good cause.
