LET THE LION ROAR

With a two-day extravaganza the likes of which Singapore has rarely witnessed, French maison Chanel pulled out all the stops to unveil its 2013/14 cruise collection and to preview Once Upon a Time..., a film shot by Karl Lagerfeld in homage to Mademoiselle Coco Chanel's 100-year-old boutique in the French resort town of Deauville. A-listers such as Dakota Fanning, Rinko Kikuchi, Anna Mouglalis and Carine Roitfeld, most of them visiting the Lion City for the first time, flew into town to attend a glamorous bash and runway show.

The film premiere was held in the lush gardens of the Raffles Hotel, the city's most storied property, whereas the fashion show and the after-party took place in Loewen Cluster, a former nutmeg plantation in the leafy enclave of Dempsey Hill.

After admiring models such as Cara Delevingne, Joan Smalls and Chanel favourite Stella Tennant clad in sporty and Riviera-ready outfits that included raffia dresses and diaphanous beach-appropriate ensembles, the stylish crowd enjoyed various outdoor performances and let their guard down on an improvised open-air dance floor in spite of the searing tropical heat that kept Lagerfeld and his posse from mingling with the hoi polloi in an appropriately airconditioned private area amid the ogling, star-struck crowd.
