Beach polo comes to Singapore

The BMW Singapore Beach Polo Championship this June will bring never before seen thrills to Tanjong Beach.

The US has its famed Miami Beach Polo World Cup, the UAE the riveting Beach Polo Cup, even England and Argentina, the traditional homes of the lawn-played historic sport of kings, has created its own adrenaline charged moments played in the sun and sand.

Finally, having raised the profile of the sport with its successful annual Triple Crown series held on the hallowed polo grounds at Mount Pleasant in recent years, the Singapore Polo Club is bringing the excitement to the beach for the first-ever BMW Singapore Beach Polo Championship.

To be held at Sentosa’s Tanjong Beach on June 4-5, it will see noted professionals such as Ric McCarthy (Australia), Dick Doolin (Australia), Francisco Guinazu (Argentina) and Kit Brooks (New Zealand) saddle up alongside Singapore-based players.

Unlike regular polo, typically played on a grass field that is 275m by 180m, the field at Tanjong Beach is only 70m by 40m, making the game that much trickier and intense. Aside from this promise of exhilarating action, international deejays – DJ Phoebe D’abo, DJ Michael Brun and DJ Patris Getro – will ensure the after parties all also one to remember.

Although VIP ticket holders will enjoy the amenities of the VIP hospitality area, the public will also be able to experience the excitement and energy of the sport.
