8 Lucky Year of the Rooster Timepieces

So you’ll have something to crow about this Chinese New Year.

Crafted by world renowned master enameller Anita Porchet, the zodiac animal of the year is intricately recreated using the Grand Feu cloisonné enamelling technique in the Piaget Altiplano Chinese Zodiac. This process sees enamel pigments partitioned using cloisons before being fired multiple times in the kiln (at over 800 degrees C) to achieve more intense colours. Adding to the elegant aesthetic of this 38-piece-only wristwatch are 78 brilliant cut diamonds set on its white gold case.

As per annual tradition, Vacheron Constantin enriches its Métiers d’Art The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac collection with a new model — this time featuring the rooster. Etched on the dial is a foliage motif inspired by the Chinese paper-cutting technique, jianzhi. Successive layers of Grand Feu enamel are then applied before a hand engraved rooster (made of either platinum or pink gold) is affixed to the centre. Four apertures display the time and date instead of the traditional two hands. The watch is available in either blue or bronze and limited to 12 pieces each.

Celebrating the dawn of a new year, the Ulysse Nardin Classico “Year of the Rooster” brings this year’s zodiac animal to life with the use of champlevé enamelling. A rare art form, the technique involves the carving of cells with a chisel directly on the dial, which are then filled with enamel and fired. Set within an 18k rose gold case, this piece is powered by the COSC-certified UN-815 self-winding movement and limited to 88 pieces only.

Forged from 18k rose gold, the Premier Rooster Automatic 36mm from Harry Winston displays a Grand Feu enamel dial decorated with the Chinese zodiac animal. Hand-painted by a professional enameller directly on the gold base plate using a fine sable-hair brush, the rooster’s every detail is brought out with precision. Set with 57 brilliant cut diamonds totalling about 2.32ct on its case, the watch is limited to eight pieces only.

Hand-crafted in Japan by master lacquer artist Kiichiro Masumura, the L.U.C XP Urushi – Year of the Rooster watch by Chopard presents a face ornamented using the Urushi lacquer technique and mother-of-pearl marquetry. Accenting the majestic rooster in the dial centre are eight gladioli blooms, which symbolise good luck. The 18k rose gold watch will come in an 88-piece limited edition.

Displaying its mastery over métiers d’art, Jaquet Droz has created four new versions of its Petite Heure Minute to usher in the Lunar New Year. The first pair comes in red gold and features Grand Feu enamel dials bearing the image of this year’s zodiac animal, framed by peonies and bamboo shoots. It is available in 39mm and 35mm versions, with the latter presenting a diamond set bezel. The other two showcase miniature sculptures on their miens — while one is in red gold and comes with jadeite and mother-of-pearl inlays, the other is accentuated with hand-painting. They are limited to 28 and eight pieces respectively.

The ninth creation launched by Officine Panerai as part of its Chinese zodiac series, the Luminor 1950 Sealand 3 Days Automatic Acciaio – 44mm (PAM 00852) is fitted with a cover hand-decorated by Italian master engravers using the sparsello technique. In this method, grooves are made in the steel before gold threads are inlaid in multiple parallel layers and beaten in until the grooves are completely filled. This timepiece is limited to 99 units only.

BOVET 1822

Known for its patented reversible Amadeo Fleurier convertible case system, the Monsieur Bovet wristwatch by Bovet 1822 comes with two different dials and can be converted into a desk clock or pocket watch. In this Chinese zodiac-inspired exclusive edition, a miniature painting of a rooster features on the mother-of-pearl dial of its reverse side, while its other face comes with a small seconds and power reserve indicator on top of the regular hour-and-minute function. These unique watches are available in 18k white and red gold versions.
