6 new hotels to visit in Asia in 2017

Because there’s so much excitement happening on this side of the globe this year.

1. Banyan Tree Jiuzhaigou Resort, China

Nature abounds at the newly opened Banyan Tree Jiuzhaigou resort. Known as “Fairyland on Earth”, Jiuzhaigou in the Sichuan Province boasts a stunning landscape of crystal clear waterfalls and magnificent mountaintop views. Nestled on a mighty mountain, the classic oriental yet modern resort, which opened this month, offers the award-winning Banyan Tree Spa to soothe your worries away. Adventure enthusiasts can enjoy a host of curated activities that includes visits to Jiuzhaigou National Park, Fairy Pool and Zoige Grasslands, as well as family-friend activities to the county town centre or Jubao Mountain.


2. Hurawalhi Island Resort, Maldives

The Maldives has long been a well-loved beach holiday destination but the new five-star Hurawalhi Island Resort presents a more memorable and romantic experience for couples with its spectacular gastronomic offerings. Opened in December 2016 and is a 40-minute seaplane flight from Malé, the all-villa tropical paradise is home to the world’s largest all-glass underwater restaurant that lies 5.8m below sea level, which serves modern cuisine available with wine-pairing options, against a backdrop of majestic marine life and views. Its Aquarium Restaurant, serving up a contemporary Japanese menu, treats guests to a romantic candlelit ambience, while the Canneli overlooks the Indian Ocean.


3. 137 Pillars Suites Bangkok, Thailand

Planning a shopping trip to Bangkok gets even better this year. Located near the upscale shopping district of Emquartier/Emporium is the soon-to-open 137 Pillars Suites Bangkok this April. Comprising 34 exclusive suites, each one comes complete with private butler service, maxi bars with wine cellars, large walk-in wardrobes and stunning marble en-suite bathrooms with circular baths and a built-in TV. For ease of travel around the city, the hotel offers guests a customised complimentary London Cab that takes them to the Bangkok BTS Skytrain and MRT underground trains, as well as to the shopping complex.


4. Glad Live Gangnam Hotel, South Korea

Colour up your holiday with a stay at the trendy Glad Live Gangnam Hotel in Seoul’s hippest district, popularised by pop prince Psy’s hit “Gangnam Style”. The hotel is built to emulate a playful vibe, but its three kinds of suites are decked with an air of decadence and style. 5. Riva Arun and Riva Surya Hotels Bangkok, Thailand

With picturesque views of the Chao Phraya river, urban getaways Riva Arun and Riva Surya hotels provide an idyllic private escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The hotels are nestled between some of the Thai city’s famous culture treasures, including including Wat Pho, Wat Arun, the Museum of Siam and the Grand Palace. The 25-room Riva Arun is in Bangkok’s preserved Rattankosin Island and walking distance to the beautiful Flower Markets of Tha Tien, while the 66-room Riva Surya, a short private boat ride away from its sister property, is set in the lively Khao San district.


6. Hard Rock Hotel Shenzhen, China

Music lovers will surely appreciate the new Hard Rock Hotel Shenzhen. Staying true to its roots of delivering premium hospitality with a music-inspired theme, this property will mix modern Chinese details with pop culture in its design. Offering a host of world-class leisure, dining and entertainment options, the hotel will also display rare and valuable memorabilia throughout its space, with each item chosen from Hard Rock’s 80,000+ piece collection from legendary music icons around the world. The hotel will open its doors in Summer 2017.

CitizenM Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Coming soon to Kuala Lumpur is the third CitizenM hotel in Asia. Situated in the shopping and entertainment epicentre of Bukit Bintang, CitizenM Kuala Lumpur will be equipped with technology that encourages guests to be involved in their room experience by personalising the lighting, temperature and movies on the television. The hotel, which is slated to open sometime in 2018, will be decked in ultra-modern designer furniture and contemporary art collections.
