Montblanc pays tribute to the pioneer of the modern piano with two exclusive editions of its fine fountain pens

Montblanc and Steinway & Sons have numerous things in common: The two German brands rely on excellent craftsmanship and peerless innovation to create stunning, timeless creations that have fuelled their respective fields through the years. This year, Montblanc honours Henry E Steinway, founder of Steinway & Sons, by dedicating two exclusive writing instruments to him: The Montblanc Patron of Art Edition — Henry E Steinway and the Limited Edition 888.
The homage is itself an exquisite work of art that comes in two select designs, each embodying the piano manufacturer’s founder’s definitive traits of perfectionism and passion.
A sophisticated vision in black and gold, the Patron of Art Edition Henry E Steinway 4810 personifies the classic Steinway grand piano with its sleek lacquer barrel and polished ends. The gilt cap of the fountain pen is also graced with an elaborate motif of the harp, a piano’s heart. Underneath, Montblanc immortalises the German maestro with an intricate engraving of the founder himself on the pen’s nib.
The stunning Limited Edition 888 takes the piano motif one step further, with its solid body crafted to resemble the delicate keys of a piano. Similar to its compatriot, the cap of this pen is wrought of 18k solid gold and bears a filigree portrait of Steinway on its nib. What distinguishes this edition is the iconic Montblanc emblem that crowns the cap: The emblematic white star is crafted from precious mother-of-pearl, adding a final touch of elegance to complete the masterpiece.
Nuanced with detail and beauteous aesthetics, Montblanc’s striking creations are a fitting ode to Henry Steinway from one artisanal luminary to another.
The Montblanc Patron of Art Edition Henry E Steinway is available in selected Montblanc boutiques. For further information, visit
