12 lucky students have been selected to take up a three-month post-graduate course of the Bottega Veneta Scuola dei Maestri Pellettieri 2017, a well-established collaboration with the Università Iuav di Venezia (IUAV) of Venice.
La Scuola dei Maestri Pellettieri di Bottega Veneta has served for over 10 years as a ‘permanent workshop’ where employees, new hires and students can meet qualified teachers and training technicians who grew up in the company during classes and internships.
The course provides a thorough education surrounding all aspects related to the development and production of high-end leather bags, an evolution of the previous initiatives held in 2013 and 2015 that perfectly embodies the commitment of both entities to develop fully contemporary professionals who will be able to merge the technical and craft skills with the creativity of a designer.
The classes will also address for the first time other product categories, such as clothing, shoes and jewellery, which are all part of Bottega Veneta universe, as well as sustainability in the luxury industry and in the company. On top of that, students will also visit tanneries, laboratories specialised in workmanships of metal details, and spend time in a Bottega Veneta boutique to experience direct contact with the clientele.
As in the previous editions, the course is built on two parts: the first stage will be held at the athenaeum, focusing on research and design to guide the students in the conception of a capsule collection; while the second stage will be held at the close Bottega Veneta’s Atelier in Montebello Vicentino, near Vicenza, where hands-on activities, from pattern making to construction and finishing techniques, will take place – in the end, a culmination with the making of two prototypes part of the initial capsule collection of each student with the support of the house‘s master artisans and technicians.
