HANDS Percussion 20th Anniversary Concerts

HANDS Percussion is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a list of exciting performances this coming August and September

The last 20 years have proven to be an exciting journey for HANDS Percussion and to commemorate such a milestone, the group is presenting three theatrical musical performances this coming August and September.

Wind of Nomads

A three-year project between HANDS and DAFRA Drums of Burkina Faso, West Africa, it reflects the unique nature of human and cultural migration, recreating the passage of energies throughout generations, globalisation and integration. This 1.5-hour concert showcases the unique outcome of combining the African djembe and the shigu (lion drum), focusing on the rhythm and versatility of these percussion instruments. Wind of Nomads will be staged at Lambang Sari, Istana Budaya from 4 to 6 August and 11 to 13 August 2017.

DeafBeat10th anniversary concert

Started in 2007, DeafBeat Malaysia is founded to inspire and teach those with hearing disability the joy and knowledge of music. The group members were first coached by HANDS Artistic Director Bernard Goh and for its 10th anniversary, HANDS will be producing the show. Current coach, Muji Lee, has the members exploring performance theatre and in order to do this, he has solicited the help of the local director, Yeo Lyle, Founder and Artistic Director of Kosong Space. The concert will take place from 22 to 24 September 2017 at Damansara Performing Art Centre (DPAC).

Percussion Paradise

This concert is also part of the Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival, Diverse City 2017, which will be held on 29 September to 1 October. A fitting tribute to the company and the industry, Percussion Paradise celebrates the performing arts in a one and a half hour long musical theme park of percussion delights. A symbol of love, gratitude and joy, it presents work composed and choreographed by members of HANDS. Their teachers will be joining them on stage to perform pieces as well, a challenge the team willingly embraces. Scandinavia’s SISU Percussion, marimba player Tan Su Yin and musician Mat Din will be collaborating in this production. Malaysian-based menswear designer Moto Guo will be providing the costumes for this production.
