SIHH Report – Day 4

Still reeling from post-fair euphoria (and jet lag), we bring you the final round-up of this year’s SIHH.

Pursuit of Excellence

A. LANGE & SŐHNE

There’s no rest for the Saxon watchmaker. After a memorable year marked with several important milestones, it starts 2016 at SIHH with some exciting novelties. Top of this list is the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon, a very technical piece that combines the beloved datograph with a perpetual calendar and a tourbillon. Its movement is not a mere adaptation of the one in the Datograph Perpetual introduced in 2006. Instead, the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon features a new 729-part movement that includes the datograph function (largely unchanged) with a perpetual calendar (complete with date, day, month, a day/night indicator and a moon phase indicator) and a tourbillon (with the patented stop seconds mechanism) that can only be viewed from the case back. The bigget challenge behind this piece was fitting all the complications and their indications (as one can imagine, a perpetual calendar and a chronograph means too much information on the dial) within an acceptable size without compromising on legibility. This watch is available in only 100 platinum pieces.

Precious Moments

CARTIER

Cartier’s Tourbillon Mystérieux Azuré pendant watch combines its renowned high jewellery expertise with its ingenious take on high watchmaking. It features a mechanical hand-wound movement with a mysterious double tourbillon that is featured in its full glory, orbiting slowly in a sapphire crystal-encased void. This beautiful complication is paired with an incredible feat of gemsetting that involved 1,017 brilliant-cut diamonds (15.92ct), 31 rose-cut diamonds (1ct), 18 baguette-cut diamonds (2.45ct), 14 sapphires (2.27ct), a 0.32-ct princess-cut diamond and onyx. But the glistening cherry atop the cake has to be the detachable 25.93-ct oval sapphire pendant that dangles seductively at the botton. Requiring some 2,050 hours to produce, it is available in only one unique piece.

Fashion Forward

BAUME & MERCIER

Look fabulous and yet, always be on time, says Baume & Mercier, with its latest Petite Promesse collection. Inspired by the small Baume & Mercier wristwatches created in the 1920s, these feminine and quartz-powered timepieces are offered in a discrete and elegant size. They are available with fully or partially set bezels and come with double tour brightly coloured leather straps or an incredibly supple stainless steel bracelet. Positioned as trendy and fun timepieces, they are perfect for pairing with other accessories.
