Swimwear brand Mileti's co-founder Yu Chia Min isn't able to detach herself from the office, even while on holiday. “Every resort I visit, I instantly check if it would be ideal to sell Mileti there!” she shares. Founded two years ago by Yu and business partner Letizia Cramer, the swimwear brand, like its founders, is inspired by foreign beaches, exotic resorts and cosmopolitan cities. It also takes pride in its luxurious Italian fabrics and styles created for women of different body types.
Although formerly a banker familiar with planning and the meticulousness of logistics and administrative work, Yu still found the first steps of the venture an uphill climb. “It was difficult to get stores to stock our line at first, but after they see our swimwear in the flesh, they're usually convinced,” she says of the humbling experiences with clients and suppliers. Today, Mileti is available in more than nine countries and is the only Singaporean label on fashion site ASOS.
