Chairman of OUE Group, Stephen Riady saw his name grace yet another educational facility in Singapore last year. The spanking new mixed-use facility at UTown opened its door in March as The Stephen Riady Centre in recognition of the philanthropist-entrepreneur's generous $30 million contribution through his Stephen Riady Group of Foundations. Riady, who also has an arts centre at the Singapore American School and a library at St Joseph's Institution International named after him, says he draws inspiration from his father Mochtar Riady, head of Indonesia's Lippo Group, whose own name graces the flagship building of the NUS Business School. Riady and OUE hit the headlines in March last year when the group agreed to buy California's tallest building — with 72 floors and six levels of underground parking — for $465.5 million. In July, the group was in the news again when it raised $600 million in its IPO for OUE Hospitality Trust (OUEHT), which holds its hospitality and retail assets. It is now considering setting up a commercial real estate investment trust.
