Shipping tycoon, award-winning hotelier and developer of luxury residential properties, Ow Chio Kiat is 42nd on Forbes 2013 list of Singapore's 50 Richest, with an estimated net-worth of US$435 million. The executive Chairman of Stamford Land, Singapore Shipping and Cougar Logistics started building his business empire while still in his teens, after inheriting a small tugboat company from his father. His hotel and property group Stamford Land is now expanding into building apartments in Australia and New Zealand. In 2013, it agreed to buy the freehold rights of the Sir Stamford in Sydney's CBD from the New South Wales government for $15.01 million. It plans to redevelop the hotel into 250 luxury condominiums. In October, it launched the development of Macquarie Park Village, also in Sydney, designed by award winning architects AJ+C. Upon completion, the $331.5 million mixed use urban village will be home to over 1,000 residents. Ow was Honorary Consul-General of the Slovak Republic to Singapore from 2001 to 2007. Since 2007, he has been Singapore's non-resident ambassador to Argentina.
