Hotel and property tycoon Ong Beng Seng is co-founder and managing director of Hotel Properties, which owns 28 hotels including the Metropolitan in Bangkok and Four Seasons in Singapore. He is ranked by Forbes as Singapore's 15th richest, together with wife Christina at a combined net worth of US$1.65 billion. Christina's Club21 operates in 11 countries, selling luxury brands such as Armani and DKNY. Ong started out in shipping insurance, before moving to join his then future father-in-law Peter Fu's trading group Kuo International 1975 before co-founding HPL with him. Their first purchase was the Singapore Hilton. In 2013, HPL said it would jointly develop high-rise residential units, a project worth $915.7 million, in the UK with Amcorp Properties, Native Land and Grosvenor. He also holds a 70-percent stake in the $850 million Four Seasons Place in Kuala Lumpur which will be completed by 2017. In January 2013, Ong boosted his indirect stake in his company to 24.3 percent. The man credited with bringing the F1 to Singapore is notoriously publicity-shy and has given only a handful of interviews to the press.
