Kemmy Tan is COO of M+S, the 60-40 joint venture between Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Temasek Holdings and developer of two highly anticipated mixed-used developments — DUO in Ophir-Rochor and Marina One in Marina South — collectively worth over $2 billion in total. Last year, M+S appointed principal contractors for both and followed this up by launching its first project within DUO with great success: Some 468 of the 540 units DUO Residences, or 87 percent were snapped up in three days. DUO also includes a 39-storey commercial and hotel complex, and a retail gallery with basement carparks and is the centrepiece of the URA's initiative to rejuvenate the Bugis district. It was designed by internationally acclaimed architect Ole Scheeren, has a gross development value of $4 billion and is scheduled to complete by 2017. Meanwhile, piling at the $7 billion Marina One, twice the size of DUO, has also begun. The project, which includes office towers, residential blocks and retail space will be the only development in the Marina Bay district to have a significant pocket — 65,000sq ft — of "green space" at its heart.
