John Lim is co-founder and the largest shareholder of property fund manager ARA Asset Management and Singapore's 45th most wealthy, according to Forbes list of Singapore's 50 Richest, with an estimated net-worth of $513.1 million. His 10-year old company, partly owned by Li Ka-shing's Cheung Kong Holdings, aims to its double assets, currently at $17 billion, by 2016. Last year, ARA entered into an alliance with Straits Trading Company, which agreed to acquire a 20.1-percent stake in it and form a new company with Lim to undertake property investments. The alliance allows ARA to expand its suite of fund platforms more rapidly and could bring ARA's total assets to $40 billion from about $23 billion now. Lim, who started ARA as with $700,000 in 2002, credits optimism, a positive world outlook and discipline as reasons for his success over the many challenges he faced in his entrepreneurial journey. For the nine months to September, ARA reported a 5 percent increase in net profit to $52.1 million on a revenue of $96.6 million.
