Prestige KK Special: Claire Tan

In conjunction with the Prestige Malaysia KK Ball, Prestige Malaysia highlights six inspiring individuals who are paving the path for Sabah’s future. As the next generation of Sabah’s future leaders, they have found their footing in a place they can call home once again as they make their mark for a better tomorrow.

The bubbly and spirited Claire Tan is part of a growing number of Sabah’s younger generation who have returned to their homeland after living abroad. She spent her formative years studying in Melbourne and had her path charted out to pursue a career in law. Upon graduating with a double degree in Law and Commerce at Monash University, Claire was faced with a crossroad as she was called to be a solicitor in Australia. At the same time, it was a monumental moment for her family business as they had just acquired a new property, which is slated to be a colossal project involving a five-star hotel.

“It seemed like a good time to come back and help out with the hotel,” Claire explains, justifying her decision to return. That was back in 2013 when Hilton Worldwide came into an agreement to establish the first Hilton in Kota Kinabalu with Pekah Hotels Sdn. Bhd. which is helmed by her father, Dato’ Steven Tan. As her family is primarily involved in the construction and development industry, Claire explains that this is the first hotel they are venturing into.
