PRESTIGE PICKS: UNDER MY UMBRELLA

In this week's online exclusive, we reflect on a stormy summer and pick our three favourite umbrellas to keep you dry in case of an 'autumn monsoon'

As the rainy summer season has been particularly inclement this year, your umbrella has probably suffered more than its fair share of wear and tear. In fact, since a particularly squally spell blew through Admiralty in early October, you may well be looking for a new one.

A quick glance at the Hong Kong Observatory website suggests that the current outlook is dry – however, we'd advise that you don't get too complacent. After all, sometimes an unexpected change of wind direction can mean that the promise of Hong Kong's beautiful autumn weather is once again dampened by stormy showers. So that you don't get caught out, here are three of our favourite umbrellas.

Burberry

Being a quintessentially British brand, it's no surprise that Burberry produce some of the world's most desirable umbrellas. We're particularly keen on their current range, which have landmarks from a variety of the world's capitals printed on colourful backgrounds. Our pick of the bunch is this navy blue, London-inspired edition.

Alexander McQueen

McQueen may be another British brand but they have a rather darker outlook on life than Burberry's vision of Cool Britannia. However, perhaps a touch of doom and gloom is fitting for a rainy day. If you're going for the gothic feel, then you may as well go the whole hog and accessorise with this compact umbrella that has a heavyweight handle shaped like a skull.

Francesco Maglia

If you're looking for a splash of colour to liven up your wet-weather look, then look no further than this Lord Maple Wood Handle Umbrella from Italian brand Francesco Maglia. Featuring bands of rich colours and a solid maple wood handle, it'll keep you looking sharp in even the most frustrating weather.
