Loewe spring/summer 2017 collection

Raw and real, Jonathan Anderson's collection for the Spanish house continues to compel

A look from Loewe's spring/summer 2017 collection

Jonathan Anderson has never hidden his love for arts and crafts, and this season the creative director of Loewe offered a collection whose earthy tones, organic fabrics, frayed edges and fringes celebrated the workmanship that always characterises his creations at the Spanish house.

While the silhouette was a continuation of last season's grown-up and chic line-up, this time the clothes had a rawness to them that will certainly appeal to a younger audience. The show was accompanied by an anxiety-inducing video by artist Magali Reus, depicting two young hunks swimming in the ocean and carrying barrels onto the shore. It was a welcome, if unnecessary, distraction that provided little context to the clothes but speaks to Anderson's cerebral approach to design.
