ASIAN FILM AWARDS, CITY OF DREAMS MACAU, MARCH 27

At the 8th Asian Film Awards, held on March 27 at the City of Dreams in Macau, the jury panel led by movie director Peter Chan honoured 15 of the region's leading cinematic talents. Wong Kar-wai's martialarts film The Grandmaster not only topped the AFA nominees' list, with 11 nominations in 14 categories, but also went on to scoop up the awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Production Designer, Best Composer and Best Costume Designer, while actress Zhang Ziyi won the Best Actress for her performance in the same movie. Indian actor Irrfan Khan was crowned Best Actor for his role in The Lunchbox, which also claimed the award for Best Screenwriter in Ritesh Batra, while the evening's highlight came when Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the film industry.
