Mercedes-Benz, a division of German company Daimler AG, is one of the most recognisable automotive brands in the world. Founded in 1926, the brand has become a status symbol of quality and understated luxury, and its strength is built on a foundation of innovation and diversity. Mercedes in recent years has taken a leading position in green innovation, in particular, with the production of numerous electric and fuel-efficient automobiles. Other key inventions include front and rear crumple zones, power braking systems and imminent crash detection. Mercedes-Benz likewise has an unimpeachable reputation in motorsports, with champion drivers such as Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton representing its teams. Some of its more important automobiles are the Mercedes AMG GT, a sports car developed entirely in-house that also has a racing variant, and the SLR McLaren, a grand touring car.
